Wells County Commissioner Jeff Stringer Announces Resignation Effective January 1, 2027

Bluffton, IN – Wells County Republican Party Chairman Preston T. Wright announced today that Wells County Commissioner Jeff Stringer has submitted his resignation, effective January 1, 2027.

Stringer cited family health issues in his resignation letter, explaining that he needs to step away from public office to spend more time with his wife, children, parents, and grandchildren.

Stringer was first selected to serve as District 3 Commissioner in a Republican caucus in October 2021 and was elected to a full term in 2024. He has served as president of the Board of Commissioners since 2024. His current term runs through December 31, 2028.

“Family comes first, and I respect Jeff’s decision to put his family first during this time,” said Wright. “I want to thank him for his service to Wells County since 2021 and for his leadership as president of the Board of Commissioners since 2024. I wish Jeff and his family all the best.”

District 3 includes Jefferson, Rockcreek, and Union Townships. Candidates seeking to fill the vacancy must reside in one of those townships and meet all other requirements established by law. Because county commissioners are elected countywide, all Republican precinct committeemen in Wells County will be eligible to vote in the caucus to select his successor.

A caucus is anticipated in December 2026. Details, including the date, time, location, and candidate filing requirements, will be announced at a later date and in accordance with statute.

Stringer has indicated that he will continue fulfilling his duties through December 31, 2026, and work to ensure a smooth transition for his successor.

The seat will next be up for election in 2028.
