Wells County Republican Party Announces Strong Candidate Filing Results

Bluffton, IN – The Wells County Republican Party today announced the results of the 2026 primary election candidate filing period, highlighting strong engagement and continued momentum for Republicans across the county.

As of the noon filing deadline on February 6, 76 Republican candidates filed to run for office in Wells County. This total includes candidates for state and federal offices, such as State Representative, State Senator, and Congress, as well as candidates in municipalities that span multiple counties, including Markle and Zanesville, all of whom will appear on the Wells County Republican Primary ballot. These figures are subject to change pending any candidate challenges or withdrawals from the ballot.

In the 2026 Republican Primary, 70 seats are up for election, including 58 elected offices and 12 convention delegate positions.

Republicans filed candidates for 63 of the 70 seats, leaving seven seats without a Republican candidate for the primary election. The Wells County Republican Party has already begun recruiting candidates for those seven seats and will continue recruiting to ensure strong Republican representation in the general election.

The filing period also produced eight contested Republican primary races, providing voters with choices while demonstrating the depth and strength of the local party.

“These results reflect a strong party organization and a deep bench of Republicans willing to step forward and serve,” said Preston T. Wright, Chairman of the Wells County Republican Party. “Wells County is one of the most Republican counties in the state, and this filing period makes it clear that we intend to keep it that way by recruiting, supporting, and electing conservative leaders at every level of government.”

The Wells County Republican Party will continue supporting its candidates and building momentum heading into the 2026 General Election.
